Even during your first solo jump you can experience some serious free fall time. Exit station is 12 500 ft (3800 m) as you leap out of a plane with a qualified AFF (accelerated free fall) on either side of you.
1.) A fitness test to establish that you have the necessary physical condition to safely withstand the stress resulting from both free fall and inflating your parachute. This consists of an 80 m sprint test followed by a 500 m long endurance run and finally, a long jump test.
2.) A three hour theory training period to introduce you to your equipment and the various stages of the jump, such as free fall and controlled flight under a parachute. This includes training in how to react to potential problems and unexpected situations.
3.) The last stage is a ground simulation training period which allows you to gain a physical familiarity with the principles of steering a parachute.
After you have successfully passed the theory and ground training, you make your first jump from 12 500 ft (3800 m) as a tandem, for 1 on 1 personal training in freefall and the fundamentals of canopy fight for a safe landing. For jump 2 you are accompanied by two instructors. During the free fall phase they hold on to your leg straps and are able to intervene at any time. After 40 seconds of free fall you reach the height of 5000 ft (1500 m) where you activate your parachute and complete the flying and landing stage by yourself. During the entire jump you are under constant observation from both the air and ground, and receive instructions via radio.
